It is a shame that so many local dealers in the area will be closing. Having been in the car business for over 25 years, many of the local dealers closing are friends or acquaintances of ours.

The Dodge Hornet To Be Built By Nissan


The Dodge Hornet was a compact car concept which had shown a few years ago. Now it's announced that the car getting closer to production.

Chrysler and Nissan haven't officially announced yet the details of the upcoming Nissan Versa-based vehicle they'll develop together. They only said that it'd be available as a 2010 model, but guesses are on a production Hornet. Chrysler vice president of international sales Thomas Hausch recently said that the Pentastar is working hard on a Hornet Study, and that Chrysler would "announce something" in the near future.

The Automotive News' article is further evidence that Nissan will build the production Hornet. Not the Chinese Automaker Chery like rumored before.

Chrysler Unveils Diesel 300C SRT


Chrysler unveils the diesel powered 300C SRT in Europe. But not exactly what you think. Basically a trim package for the 300C in Europe, the SRT model gets visual enhancements such as a new rear taillight clusters and a deck lid spoiler, but the car still uses the same 3.0L V6 diesel producing 218 bhp and 376 pound feet of torque you can get in other models.

While the wheels appear to be the same 10-spokers as the US spec 300C SRT8, the front fascia lacks the deeper chin spoiler and the grille is Chrysler's Euro-spec Bentley-like tight mesh.

Dodge Viper To Be Discontinued


According to Jalopnik, Chrysler was planning to cut more models in addition to the PT Cruiser, PT Cruiser Convertible, Pacifica, Crossfire and Magnum. Jalopnik is reporting that, according to several of its sources, the Dodge Viper SRT10 will be cancelled, as well. The decision was reportedly made after Cerberus took control of Chrysler. The current Dodge Viper will be sold as is through the 2011 model year.

The Viper has always been a symbol car for Chrysler. Chrysler plans to spend money which they earn due the discontinuation of the Viper to develop better interiors and more appealing designs.

Tata And Chrysler Sign Deal To Import Electric Vehicle


India's top vehicle builder really wants to become a world player. To that aim, Tata Motors has entered into a new deal with Chrysler, LLC to develop an electric version of Tata's Ace mini truck for sale in North America.

Chrysler's Global Electric Motorcars division (GEM) is working with Tata to import fully-assembled vehicles that meet all the appropriate U.S. regulations. The battery-operated Ace has successfully navigated the required safety tests, and they're reportedly ready for production. Tata wants to eventually export up to 50,000 vehicles to the US, but they've pegged the goal for 2008 at 10,000 units.

Volkswagen To Name Chrysler Based Minivan Routan

Volkswagen has announced that it will unveils its version of the Chrysler LLC minivan at the Chicago Auto Show in early February, and that its name will be Routan.

The Routan is good news for Chrysler, which will use up some excess production capacity at its Windsor, Ontario plant by building VW's minivan alongside the Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country.

Chrysler Announces New Manufacturing Cuts: PT Convertible, Magnum, Crossfire and Pacifica


Chrysler has officially announced its pruduct-cutting plan. Along the pruduction cuts, the automaker will make a number of cuts to its workforce.
The first models, which will be dropped from the lineup, are Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible, Dodge Magnum, Chrysler Pacifica, and Chrysler Crossfire.
Sales on these four models were down as much as 32% through September. And with these cuts, the automaker hopes get Chrysler back in the black.
A total 8,000 to 10,000 hourly positions, 1,000 salaried positions and 37% of contractor positions will be also eliminated.

Daimler Sold Its Majority Stake In Chrysler


Daimler sold Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Management.Cerberus Capital Management will take an 80.1-percent chunk of Chrysler, while DCX holds on to the remaining 19.9-percent.Cerberus Capital Management will pay $7.4 billion for the majority stake.The entire deal is expected to close by the third quarter of this year.
