First Official Camaro Convertible Pictures Released

Thanks to those spy photographers we have already seen a lot of shots of the new Chevrolet Camaro. Last year GM released pre-production shots of the Camaro Coupe, now for the first time we get to see the first official shots of the Camaro Convertible.

The shots have only been released in low resolution so far. Chevrolet North America Vice President Ed Peper posted them on GM's Fastlane Blog.

The model is still in the evaluation stages of development and it will go into full production next year. New Camaro is expected to make debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Geneva 2008 Preview: Fiat 500 Abarth

Fiat has just released the first official pictures of the Abarth version of its popular 500 mini hatch. The pictures show the 500 with a full bodykit consisting of a new front spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper with a diffuser. Black, Scorpion-emblazoned 5-spoke wheels with silver and red accents complete the hot hatch's design while the Abarth shield adorns the nose, rear quarters, and hatchback lid. Flashes of red make their way onto the rearview mirrors, brake calipers, and side stripes, too. Inside, the leaked cutaway drawing shows us read seats with matching door panel inserts.

The 1.4-liter gas engine gets a turbo to bump the power from 100 bhp to 155 bhp at 5500 rpm. That 55% increase in power pushes the 0-to-62 mph time down to 8.2 seconds.

The hot hatch will likely be one of the stars of the show when the doors are opened in Geneva.

Officially Unveiled: Mercedes-Benz SL

Mercedes-Benz officially released details of the 2009 SL-class, photos of which leaked on to the web last week. In addition to its updated exterior styling, the droptop adds a new entry model for Europe, the 231-horsepower SL 280.

On top of that, the SL 350 gains power (now 316 horses) while improving overall fuel economy. The other engines are same - the 388-horse V8 in the SL 500 and the 517-HP twin-turbo V12 in the SL 600. Both get a slight improvement in fuel economy, too. The flagship is the 600 and it's distinguishable from its lesser kin via unique 18" wheels and the matte-finish "gills" aft of the front wheel well.

Also new for the SL is MB's direct-steer system, which was introduced on the new SLK and the CLC. Improved lighting is standard and the optional Intelligent Light System offers drivers five different light settings to handle varying road conditions. There are no words about the SL 63 AMG yet. But we show you its photo above. The SL will make its debut At Geneva Show in March.

Officially Unveiled: 2009 Subaru Forester

Subaru's Christmas present to everyone is the release of the first official photo of the 2009 Forester. The Forester's appearance has been one of the worst-kept secrets all the time of autodom over the last few weeks.

Subaru's press release (read it after the jump) is scant on details except to say that the car rides on a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model, providing more interior room while growing overall length just 3 inches. Inside, expect to see upgraded plastics and ergonomics, with power coming from 2.5L normally aspirated and turbocharged boxer engines. Lots more information on this new Forester in the coming days. -Press release after the jump...

PRESS RELEASE:

North American International Auto Show Preview: Subaru Releases First Photos of All-New 2009 Forester Crossover SUV

- All-New Design with Improved Comfort, Space and Utility

- All-New Platform With Sport-Sedan Dynamics

- Standard Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Dec. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Subaru of America, Inc. today released the first official photos of the all-new, third-generation 2009 Forester, a total re-design of the award-winning crossover utility vehicle (CUV) that will debut at the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit in January. The 2009 Forester, which arrives in Subaru dealerships this spring, builds upon its predecessor's reputation as an icon of safety, dependability and versatility. The new-generation 2009 model projects a bolder, more SUV-like design and making a major leap in safety technology, comfort, refinement and driving dynamics.

As with all Subaru models, the 2009 Forester comes equipped as standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. An all-new platform featuring a 3.6-inch longer wheelbase (now 103.0 inches) and double-wishbone rear suspension improves crash-worthiness and at the same time provides crisper handling, a quieter ride and increased interior space and cargo room. The 2009 Forester once again blends positive SUV attributes including a high seating point and interior versatility with passenger car comfort, handling and fuel efficiency.

All Forester models for 2009 feature standard side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor, and the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system is standard on all models for the first time. With the Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept (Subaru DC3), Subaru optimized all elements of the Forester's chassis to deliver a better balance of ride, handling response, quietness and overall traction performance than offered by competitive vehicles. A comprehensive array of elements contributes to that goal, including the new, high-strength body structure, standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, VDC and four-wheel disc ABS brakes with the Brake Assist safety system.

Manual-transmission models also feature Incline Start Assist, which can momentarily prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when being driven away from a stop on an incline.

Even with its bolder exterior and roomier interior, the new 2009 Forester is only about three inches longer than its predecessor, thus retaining the trim exterior packaging cited by Forester owners as one of this model's most essential features. A robust body structure, heavy-duty raised four-wheel independent suspension system and up to 8.9 inches of ground clearance help make Forester equally adept at negotiating twisty roads and absorbing ruts and bumps.

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE WITH GREATER COMFORT AND VERSATILITY

The 2009 Forester offers naturally aspirated and turbocharged/intercooled 2.5-liter Boxer engines, both revised to provide better low-end and mid-range torque for more responsive everyday performance. New interior materials, including double-stitched fabrics and high-grade plastics, impart a feeling of higher quality. As before, Forester is offered in a wide array of models, with the 2009 Forester 2.5 X offering one of the best values in the crossover SUV segment and the range-topping Forester L.L.Bean Edition offering more luxury without compromising the vehicle's sporty nature.

The 2009 Forester offers a navigation system for the first time as well as advanced audio system upgrade options. The 2009 Forester comes pre-wired for XM(R) or SIRIUS(R) Satellite Radio. An auxiliary audio input jack enables connection of an iPod(R) or MP3 player.

Officially Unveiled: BMW X6

The BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe will be German marque's big Detroit debut. When it arrives to the market, there will be two flavors to choose.

The xDrive50i is powered by a new twin-turbo, direct-injected 4.4L V8 pumping out 400-horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. The xDrive35i, meanwhile, gets the automaker's acclaimed 300-hp TT inline six-cylinder. Dynamic Performance Control is a standard feature that can direct torque to either rear wheel, further aiding steering in both dry weather and sloppier conditions.

The X6 looks pretty good for a SUV. It looks pretty much just like the concept version we saw earlier this year. Interior appointments are typical BMW fare, meaning they're quite nice.

Officially Unveiled: Hyundai Genesis Sedan

The spy photos were detailed and plentiful, and this week any remaining mystery about the new Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan's looks has been put away.

The car was previewed to the media in Korea this week, and the photos released by Hyundai show the Korean-market version of the car. The newly-unveiled winged Genesis emblem found its place on the hood and wheel centers. -Continued after the jump...

Specific technical details are not given save for confirmation, but we know that Hyundai's new premium sedan will be offered with a 375 horsepower Tau V8 and a pair of Lambda V6's (3.3L and 3.8L). According to a company spokesman, the most expensive version of Hyundai's new flagship should come at around $40,000 USD depending on equipment (the V6 should sticker under $30K).

Koreans will be able to buy the car in January, with US and Chinese sales to follow later in the first half of '08. The car's full reveal will take place next month at the Detroit Auto Show.
